Optimum Nutrition 100% Gold Standard Whey

I actually first discovered ON products back when I started seriously working out in college.  I was using their Pro Complex at the time, not really knowing what the hell I was doing.  At that point, I had no idea that whey protein powder was ideal for post-workout nutrition.

But once I figured that out, this was the stuff that ruled my universe…

With 24 grams of protein and being very low in carbs (3 grams per serving), this is very good for the person who is trying to lose weight, while building lean muscle.  Also, the 5.5 grams of BCAAs in each scoop (a very overlooked/underappreciated building block for muscle growth) help you rebuild whatever torture you just put yourself through in the gym.

It mixes really well with both milk and water, which is something I find to be very important with any protein powder I use.  In my shaker cup, it takes about 30 seconds to get a smooth texture.

While the nutritional facts are stellar, the flavors are very hit-or-miss.  My favorites happen to be the Mocha Cappuccino and the Extreme Double Chocolate.  The Vanilla Ice Cream isn’t anything stellar, but it gets the work done.  The worst of the bunch, in my opinion, is the Chocolate Peanut Butter (then again, no company has been able to meet the standards I look for in something that SHOULD taste like a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup).

At the price point that’s great for starters and advanced gym rats alike ($26.99 for a 2 lbs. tub at Bodybuilding.com),  I recommend trying out different flavors until you find the one that’s right for you.
